SIBM An Overview

Syndicate Institute of Bank Management (SIBM), located at Manipal, in the backdrop of luxuriant Western Ghats, is the apex training institution of Syndicate Bank for honing skills in banking and management for the bank's executives and senior personnel. The Institute was set up in November 1987. The institute has a sprawling campus of 15 acres, offering a panoramic view of the green valley on the east and Arabian Sea in the west. The fully residential Institute, with all modern infrastructure expected in an Institution of this nature, like well-equipped classrooms, library, computer laboratory, conference hall and auditorium, also offers a variety of recreation facilities, including a modern gymnasium, mini-cricket ground, volleyball courts, indoor games, jogging track and so on. Shady fruit bearing trees, medicinal plants, rose garden and other recreational facilities are provided to rejuvenate the body and mind The hostel has 65 fully air-conditioned and tastefully furnished rooms.


Training Centres & their activities

SIBM, under its wings, has Eight Training Centres, at Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ernakulam and Bhopal. While Training Centres cater to the training needs of Junior Management and Workmen employees in all areas of Banking operations, SIBM imparts training on specialised areas to middle management and senior level officers. The Training Centres are also well equipped with all modern learning aids, like computer lab, library, multi-media projectors etc.


Training Programmes

Training activities of the Bank are governed by the policies and procedures laid down in the Training Manual. Training programmes are classified into two categories, general programmes and special programmes. Training programmes are conducted in branches like Risk Management, Credit Management, Recovery Management, Internal Control Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Quality Improvement, Foreign Exchange, Information Technology. The programme “Grooming Future Branch Managers” is designed to train officers who are likely to assume the role of branch heads. Executive Development Programmes are conducted for the benefit of officers who have elevated to the post of executives. Special programmes are designed based on the recommendations of the Departments at Head Office and Corporate Office, taking into account the Corporate Goals, Policies, requirements, business plans and strategies, target group etc. Regular programmes are also conducted on Soft Skills and Customer Services.

Executives and Officers are also nominated for specialised training programmes organised by reputed external training institutions within India and abroad

Strategic Talent Pipeline Building Programme

To strengthen the HR Policy, our Bank has entered into an MOU with reputed institutes for training the candidates who are selected for admission to one year Post Graduation Diploma (Banking & Finance). On successful completion of course, the candidates will be appointed as Probationary Officers in JM Grade Scale - I in our Bank. The POs joining the Bank through such training institutes would not only have undergone focused training in Banking and Finance and thus possess banking knowledge and skills, but also acquire a lot of knowledge on the Bank’s internal process, products, technology etc.


Training Methodology

"Adult Learning Principles" is practiced in all training programmes, where the emphasis is on group synergy through activities like group discussion, case studies, problem-solving exercises etc.


Online Learning System (OLLS)

SIBM has successfully made the OLLS software’s Information Portal and Education Portal live. The OLLS software can be utilized to the maximum advantage of employees and organization by allowing access through internet and intranet. At present OLLS is available through intranet only. OLLS is also made ready for implementation in tune with Project Ananya’s recommendation which include employees’ ‘Express Interest’ and Branch Head/Regional Head’s recommendations for nomination. Now the employees can download their nomination from OLLS and RO/Branch Heads can view the Employee Training Profile. Administrative Officers can draw the required data from the OLLS on training and make need based training decisions.
